Placing and Editing Furniture

Place furniture from the library, rotate it with Spacebar, attach it to floors or walls, resize it and set its story.

Snaptrude's furniture library holds parametric furniture and fixtures that you can drop into your model, rotate, attach to floors or walls, and resize. Use it to test layouts, check clearances and include furniture in your project quantities.

Before you start

Furniture isn't available on the Free plan: Free users can't open the furniture or materials libraries. To place furniture, upgrade to a paid plan. See Snaptrude Plans: Free, Starter, Pro, Organization and Enterprise for what each plan includes.

Place furniture

  1. Click Furniture on the vertical toolbar at the right edge of the canvas to open the furniture library.

  2. Browse a category, or type in the search bar to find an item.

  3. Click the item's thumbnail. It attaches to your cursor by its centre.

  4. To turn the item before you place it, press Spacebar. Each press rotates it 90° clockwise.

  5. Click in the model to place the item.

Note: While an item is still attached to your cursor, it doesn't snap to the vertices of other furniture, because its centre is locked to the cursor. Once it's placed, you can move it and snap to the vertices of furniture and other objects.

Attach furniture to floors or walls

Use the Snap to dropdown to control what furniture can be placed on.

  • Snap to Floors keeps the item on the floor, so it won't snap to a slab or any other object.

  • Snap to Walls lets the item be placed only on a wall. This is useful for lighting fixtures and other wall-mounted items.

Rotate furniture after placing it

  1. Select one or more furniture items.

  2. Press Spacebar, or right-click and choose Rotate 90°.

Each rotation is 90° clockwise. A single item turns about its pivot, and several selected items turn together about their combined centre. Locked objects don't rotate. For other angles, use the Rotate tool (Q) in the top toolbar, which can also rotate around a reference point you pick.

Tip: If nothing is selected, Spacebar switches back to the Select tool instead of rotating.

Change furniture dimensions

Furniture from the Snaptrude library is parametric, so you can change its size without rebuilding it.

  1. Select the furniture item. To edit several items at once, select them all.

  2. In the Properties tab of the right panel, change the length, width or height.

To move, copy, array or flip furniture, use the same editing tools you use for any other object.

Check or change a furniture item's story

Furniture belongs to the story it sits on, so an item placed on an upper floor stays with that floor. In 2D, an item placed inside a space or mass sits at the base of that story.

  1. Select the item.

  2. In the Properties tab of the right panel, look at the Story field to see which story it belongs to.

  3. To move the item, choose a different story in the Story field.

Add your own furniture

If the library doesn't have what you need, you can import a Revit family as a Parametric Component, or ask the Snaptrude Agent to build one with adjustable parameters. In team projects, components the agent creates are added to the team library automatically. See Parametric Components and Families for the steps.

Tips

  • Placed furniture is included in the project's quantities. For furniture that comes from your team library (Organization and Enterprise plans), you can track cost as well. Set the currency in the Team Library.

  • Smart Layouts carry furniture with them. Furniture against a wall stays on that wall in the target space, and furniture away from walls moves to the nearest wall, with grouped furniture moving as one unit.
