Take-Off (BOQ) and Project Cost

View model quantities by category in BIM Mode, set units and calculation methods, and track project cost from Team Library prices.

Take-Off (also called the Bill of Quantities, or BOQ) lists every quantity in your model, grouped by object category, and updates as you design. Project cost tracking uses the prices stored in your Team Library to show how each change affects the total cost of the project. Use them to check quantities and cost while you design, without exporting the model to another tool.

Before you start

  • Take-Off is a tab in the right panel in BIM Mode. BIM Mode is available on the Pro, Organization and Enterprise plans.

  • Custom units, calculation methods, currency and prices are set in the Team Library, which is available on the Organization and Enterprise plans, so they apply only to projects that belong to a team. Personal projects use the default calculation methods listed below.

View quantities in Take-Off

  1. Open your project and switch to BIM Mode.

  2. In the right panel, click the Take-Off tab. If the model has no BIM objects yet, the tab asks you to convert your spaces or draw BIM objects first.

  3. Find the category you need. Quantities are grouped by object category, such as walls, Floor Slab, Flooring, ceilings, Roof, columns, beams, staircases, doors, windows and furniture.

  4. Click the arrow next to a category name to expand it and see the quantity of each type in that category.

Take-Off updates in real time. When you add, delete or change an element, its category reflects the change straight away, so you don't need to refresh anything.

Note: Roof is its own Take-Off category. Roofs are not counted under Floor Slab or Flooring. In older projects, slabs that used the RCC Roof or Asphalt Shingles types were migrated to Roof.

Export Take-Off

  1. Click the project name at the top left to open the project menu.

  2. Choose Export > Take-off.

Change Logs can be exported from the same menu, under Export > Change Logs.

Understand the default calculation methods

Each object category is measured in one way: by area, by volume or by count. Units follow the project's units. In personal projects, these defaults can't be changed.

Set units and calculation methods in the Team Library

In team projects, you can choose the unit and calculation method (area, volume or running length) for wall, Floor Slab, Flooring and ceiling types.

  1. Open the Team Library.

  2. Open the tab for the object type you want to change, for example Walls.

  3. In the unit column, choose the unit and calculation method for each type.

  4. Repeat for Floor Slab, Flooring and ceiling types as needed.

Take-Off in your team projects reflects the units and calculation methods you set.

Add prices and choose a currency

Project cost is calculated from prices attached to elements in the Team Library. Elements without a price don't add to the project cost.

  1. Open the Team Library.

  2. Use the currency picker to choose the currency for costs, for example Rupee.

  3. Add a cost to each library element you want to track, such as furniture, doors, windows and wall types.

Track project cost

  1. Open a team project.

  2. Open the project cost panel.

  3. Read the chart at the top of the panel to see how the total project cost has changed over time.

  4. Scroll the action history below the chart. Each entry shows which elements were added, removed or modified, their quantities and the effect on cost.

Like Take-Off, the cost panel updates in real time as you place, change or delete priced elements.

Troubleshooting

  • I can't find Take-Off. Check that you're in BIM Mode. The Take-Off tab doesn't appear in the right panel in Design Mode. If BIM Mode isn't available, check your plan.

  • Project cost shows zero or seems too low. Check that the elements in your model come from the Team Library and that those library elements have a cost entered.

  • I can't change a category's calculation method. Custom units and methods come from the Team Library, so they're only available in team projects, and only for wall, Floor Slab, Flooring and ceiling types.
