Program Mode has its own agent panel with an agent dropdown. Use it to research a brief, analyze a site, turn spreadsheet data into a program, generate spaces, size them and stack them on stories, all from the program sheets. The dropdown is set to Auto by default, so you can type what you need and let Snaptrude pick the right agent.
Before you start
Open your project and click the Program tab at the top of the screen. Program Mode opens in a separate browser tab, with the agent panel on the left.
If your project has more than one design proposal, select the proposal you want to work on first. Most agents act on the active proposal (see Which proposal an agent works on below).
Query is available on the Enterprise plan only.
All agent prompts use AI credits.
Choose an agent
Open the agent dropdown in the agent panel on the left of Program Mode. It lists these options:
Agent | What it does |
Auto | The default. Automatically routes your request to the right agent, based on your prompt. |
Research | Answers research questions about your project, such as codes, accessibility standards, benchmarks or analysis of your program and imported sheets. |
Interpret | Converts data in your custom or imported sheets into program data: space names, areas, counts, departments and, where present, length, width, ratio, height and story. |
Analyze Site | Builds the site analysis (site area, zoning, FAR and other constraints) in the Site Analysis sheet. |
Generate | Creates program content. Choose Gross Area Objects (Program Blocks), Net Area Objects (rooms) or Charts. |
Edit Dimensions | Changes the dimensions of the spaces you name. Choose Gross Area Objects or Net Area Objects. |
Assign Stories | Distributes spaces across stories. Choose Gross Area Objects, Net Area Objects or Both. |
Query | Searches your organization's connected Knowledge and past projects. Enterprise plan only. |
Note: Program Mode doesn't run the full design sequence (site, envelope, massing and stacking in one go). To have AI build or change the model on the canvas, use the Snaptrude Agent: in Design, BIM or Present Mode, click the Agent button at the top of the far-left rail to open the AI chat panel.
Let Auto pick the agent
Make sure the dropdown shows Auto.
Type your prompt, for example "Create a program for a 120,000 sf hotel and retail mixed-use building", and send it.
Snaptrude suggests one agent for the prompt. Click Yes, proceed to run it, or No, I'll select myself to pick a different agent from the dropdown.
Note: The prompt box stays locked until you answer the suggestion.
Note: Auto never routes to Query. To search Knowledge or past projects, select Query in the dropdown yourself.
Run a specific agent
Open the agent dropdown and select the agent.
If the agent has options (Generate, Edit Dimensions and Assign Stories), choose one.
Type your prompt and send it.
Review the result in the program sheets before you run the next agent.
Attach files
You can attach PDFs, such as an RFP, a brief, building codes or a zoning document, to your prompt to give the agent more context.
For site analysis, attach a document with your site information to give Analyze Site more to work with.
Analyze a site
Select Analyze Site in the dropdown, or describe your site with Auto selected.
Enter the constraints you already know, such as site area, FAR or zoning, and attach any site documents.
Send the prompt and review the results in the P1 - Site Analysis sheet. You can edit values in this table directly.
The agent detects an imported site (topography) and infers zoning and FAR from it, and it can also read a site you drew manually. Values you give in the prompt override detected values. Site constraints are shared with later agents, such as Research and program generation, and the buildable envelope reads from the Site Analysis sheet.
Generate a program
Select Generate, then Gross Area Objects for Program Blocks or Net Area Objects for rooms.
Describe the building type, total area and program mix, and attach the RFP if you have one.
Review the generated spaces, areas and counts in the P1 - Program sheet.
When generating spaces, the agent applies an efficiency factor that depends on the typology and department rather than one fixed ratio. If your prompt states story information (for example, the number of stories), that takes priority over the envelope.
Tip: The agent makes assumptions where your brief is silent. The more you specify (typology, area, site, standards), the closer the first result will be.
Create charts
Select Generate, then Charts.
Describe the chart you want, for example "Bar chart of net area by department".
Tip: Select the relevant rows in your sheet before prompting so the agent focuses on that data.
Edit dimensions
Select Edit Dimensions, then Gross Area Objects or Net Area Objects.
Name the spaces to change and the dimensions you want, for example "Make all guest rooms 15 ft deep".
Only the spaces you name in the prompt are changed. Other spaces keep their current dimensions.
Assign stories
Select Assign Stories, then Gross Area Objects, Net Area Objects or Both.
Give the story count and any placement preferences, for example "Stack across 10 stories and put private offices on levels 3 and 4".
Review the result and refine with follow-up prompts.
Which proposal an agent works on
In projects with several design proposals, each proposal has its own program data sheet and Site Analysis sheet.
Interpret, Analyze Site, Generate (program objects), Edit Dimensions and Assign Stories act on the active proposal.
Research, Charts and Query don't depend on a proposal.
Program Mode agents and the Snaptrude Agent
The Program Mode dropdown and the Snaptrude Agent work side by side:
Use the Program Mode dropdown for focused work on the program sheets, one agent at a time.
Use the Snaptrude Agent (the AI chat panel opened with the Agent button in Design, BIM or Present Mode) when you want one prompt to handle several steps. It picks the specialists itself, chains dependent steps and works on the model on the canvas.
Troubleshooting
"Unsupported functionality" card: the agent you chose can't do what the prompt asks. Try a different agent, or switch to Auto.
"Response not given" card: the run timed out. Send the prompt again, or break it into smaller requests.
You see an upgrade prompt when you use Query: Query is only available on the Enterprise plan.
