Auto Diagrams: Program, Adjacency and Site Diagrams

Generate, style, update and export program, adjacency and site analysis diagrams automatically in Present Mode.

Snaptrude draws program, adjacency and site analysis diagrams for you in Present Mode, straight from the spaces, departments, adjacencies and site data already in your project. Use them for early-stage presentations and client reviews: style them, regenerate them when the design changes, and export them with your sheets.

Before you start

  • Program diagrams need a program in the project: spaces and Program Blocks with a Department tag.

  • Adjacency diagrams need adjacencies computed for the project. Adjacency isn't available on the Free plan. For how to compute and edit them, see Adjacencies, Arrange and Pack. Each department needs at least two spaces to show up in a department adjacency diagram.

  • Site analysis diagrams need a site analysis for the project, for example one run by the Snaptrude Agent or by the Analyze Site agent in the Program Mode agent dropdown.

  • If your project uses Design Proposals, diagrams are generated separately for each proposal. See "Work with diagrams for each proposal" below.

Types of auto diagrams

Diagram

What it shows

Program diagram

The spaces and departments in your program.

Department adjacency diagram

Departments across the project and the adjacency lines between them.

Space adjacency diagram

Spaces on one story and the adjacency lines between them.

Site analysis diagrams

The results of the project's site analysis.

Generate diagrams in Present Mode

  1. Open your project and make sure the program, adjacencies or site analysis you want to diagram are in place.

  2. Switch to Present Mode.

  3. In the toolbar, open the Auto Diagram dropdown.

  4. Choose Program, Adjacency or Site Diagrams. Adjacency opens a submenu where you pick which adjacency diagram to create.

  5. Snaptrude places the diagram on a sheet, built from the program, the computed adjacencies or the site analysis.

Tip: You can also ask the Snaptrude Agent in Present Mode, for example "Make program diagrams for this design".

Note: Adjacency diagram sheets default to ANSI B landscape. For working with sheets in general, see Creating Sheets in Present Mode.

Update diagrams after design changes

After you change spaces, departments or adjacencies, regenerate the diagrams so they match the model:

  1. Go to Present Mode.

  2. Click Update Diagrams.

  3. Snaptrude regenerates the diagrams in the set. Styles, corner radius and text settings you have applied are kept.

Note: Only diagrams that are still part of their auto-generated set are updated. See "Move diagrams out of the set" below.

Change the diagram style

Spaces and departments in program and adjacency diagrams can be drawn in three styles: Rectangle (block), Rounded Rectangle and Bubble. Bubbles stay true to the area of each space or department.

  1. In Present Mode, click the diagram sheet itself, not an individual space or department inside it.

  2. In the View Settings panel on the right, open the Configure tab and go to the Shape settings.

  3. Choose Rectangle, Rounded Rectangle or Bubble.

Tip: The same panel controls line colour, weight and type, fill colour mode and opacity for each category, including Adjacency Lines. See View Settings and Font Styles in Present Mode for every option.

Adjust corner radius and spacing

When you use the Rounded Rectangle style, you can set how round the corners are and how far apart the shapes sit.

  1. Select the diagram and choose the Rounded Rectangle style as above.

  2. Enter a Corner Radius value. The default is 2 ft and the range is 1 to 100.

  3. Adjust the inset (the gap between shapes) if you want more or less separation.

Spaces and departments have independent radius and inset settings, so you can round departments more than the spaces inside them. Your values are kept when you update or regenerate the diagrams.

Edit diagram text

Use the Text settings in the right panel to show or hide labels, areas and department names, and to change font, style and size. Text changes made to one auto diagram apply to every diagram in that set, so the whole set stays consistent.

Move diagrams out of the set

Auto diagrams can be moved, scaled and reordered within a sheet, moved to other sheets, and dragged outside the sheet area.

  1. Select the diagram in Present Mode.

  2. Drag it to a new position or onto another sheet, or resize it.

Note: Once a diagram is moved out of its auto-generated set, it can no longer be updated. Update Diagrams and Update all views won't change it, so keep diagrams in their set until the design is settled.

Work with diagrams for each proposal

In projects with more than one design proposal, each proposal has its own program, site analysis sheet and diagrams.

  1. In Present Mode, use the proposal selector to choose a proposal.

  2. The auto diagrams shown are the ones generated for that proposal. Placed views carry the proposal name as a prefix, so you can tell options apart on a sheet.

Export diagrams

Diagrams export with their sheets as PDF, PNG or JPG using Export at the top right of Present Mode. Styles you applied in View Settings are kept in PDF, PNG and JPG exports. See Export Sheets.

Troubleshooting

  • No adjacency diagram appears: compute adjacencies for the project first, then return to Present Mode and click Update Diagrams.

  • A department is missing from the adjacency diagram: check that it has at least two spaces.

  • A diagram didn't change after an update: it was probably moved out of its set. Moved diagrams aren't updated.

  • Diagrams show the wrong option: check the proposal selector in Present Mode.
