Tags let you classify spaces and Flooring by more than one scheme at once, such as Department, Building, Phase, Wing or Option. A single set of tags drives color modes, filter selection, the Areas tab, Program Mode columns and the Room parameters you send to Revit.
How tags are organized
Tag categories are the classification schemes, for example Building or Phase. Every project includes a Department category by default, and you can add as many categories as you need.
Tag values are the options inside a category, for example Phase 1 and Phase 2. Each value has its own color.
An object carries one value per category. A space can be tagged Building A and Phase 2 at the same time, but it can't have two Phase values.
An object with no value assigned in a category shows Default for that category.
Tags work on spaces, including Program Blocks, and on Flooring objects. Departments are Program Blocks with a Department tag, not a separate kind of object.
Note: Tags are shared across the whole project. If you use Design Proposals, every proposal uses the same tag categories and values, the same way it shares materials and the project library.
Create a tag category
Select a space.
In the Properties panel, click +New Tag.
Enter a name for the category.
Add the values you want in the category.
Click Create.
The category appears in the Properties panel of every space and Flooring object in the project, and as a column in Program Mode.
Apply tags to spaces
Select a space.
In the Properties panel, open the dropdown next to the tag category.
Choose a value.
Tip: You can also assign values row by row in Program Mode without leaving the sheet (see below).
Note: You can't change the tags of a locked object. Unlock it first.
Edit or delete a tag category
In the Properties panel, click the three-dot menu next to the tag category.
Change the category name, rename values or change their colors.
Click Apply.
To delete a category, open the same three-dot menu and choose delete. The Department category can't be deleted.
Edit tag values in Program Mode
Each tag category appears as a custom column in the Program Mode sheet, next to the Area Type column (Net, Gross or Excluded). You can assign, create, rename and delete values without leaving the sheet.
Assign a value: double-click a tag cell and pick a value from the dropdown.
Create a value: double-click a tag cell and type. The dropdown filters as you type. Press
Enteron a name that doesn't exist yet to create it and assign it.Rename or delete values: open the dropdown and go to Edit Tag. Objects that used a deleted value reset to Default.
Clear one object's value: click a tag cell once and press
Delete. The object resets to Default, and the value stays available in the list.
Changes appear immediately in Design Mode, BIM Mode and Program Mode. Editors can create, assign and edit tags. Viewers can only see them.
Color the model by a tag category
Any tag category can drive the color mode, so you can read the same model by Phase, Building or Option without changing geometry. Tag-based coloring is available in Design Mode, from the Right-click menu and in Present Mode.
Saved views remember the tag category used for color.
If you delete a category that a saved view uses, the view goes back to coloring by Department the next time it updates.
Objects that the tag doesn't apply to keep the default textured colors.
Flooring objects take their tag colors the same way spaces do.
Select objects by tag
Filter Select is in the Right-click menu and also works when you right-click an empty part of the canvas. You can also open it from the Select dropdown in the top toolbar (Filter selection). It has three options:
By Story selects objects on the stories you choose.
By Object selects by object type, and lets you narrow spaces down by Space Type.
By Tag selects across several tag values and categories at once.
Filter Select uses OR logic: if you choose options in more than one group, it selects anything that matches at least one of them. Locked objects stay uneditable and hidden objects stay hidden.
With an object already selected, the Right-click menu also offers Same Label, Same Type, Same Tags and Same Instances, where they apply, for selecting everything that matches the current object.
Give instances different tags
Instances of the same space can carry different tag values. For example, two instances of a typical unit can sit in different phases. Tag-based color modes show the difference on the canvas.
Keep tags through Sketch to BIM
Tags carry from spaces onto Flooring, so your classification survives the move from massing to BIM.
When you run Sketch to BIM from the BIM Mode toolbar, each space's tag values are copied to the Flooring object it produces.
Tag categories and values are shared between spaces and Flooring. A category you create on a space appears in the Flooring Properties panel, and the other way round.
Flooring has its own Area Type setting (Net, Gross or Excluded), so massing and BIM area figures stay consistent.
After Sketch to BIM, custom tag columns no longer appear in Program Mode for those objects. The data stays linked to the Flooring and still exports to Revit.
Copy tags between projects
Tags are carried over when you copy and paste objects from one project into another, so you don't have to rebuild a classification scheme for each project.
Export tags to Revit
When you export to Revit, each tag category becomes a Room parameter, filled with the value assigned to each space or Flooring object. This works both when you import into an existing Revit project and when you create a new one.
Note: Objects whose value is Default export with that parameter empty. Only values you assigned are written to Revit rooms.
Note: Revit export is available on the Pro, Organization and Enterprise plans and requires Snaptrude Manager.
Use tags in the Areas tab
In the Areas tab of the right panel, you can sort and filter rows by tag to build area statements for each building, phase or department. Filters apply to the rows, the rollups and the totals.
