Views save a camera position together with what is visible and how it looks, so you can return to a plan or 3D angle in one click and place it on sheets in Present Mode. You manage plan views, 3D views and story underlays from the left panel, in both Design Mode and BIM Mode.
Before you start
Each story gets a plan view automatically, so you don't have to create one per floor.
If your project has more than one building, each building has its own stories and views. Switch buildings with the Building dropdown at the top of the left panel.
If you use Design Proposals, each proposal keeps its own saved views. Switch proposals with the Proposal dropdown in the left panel.
Find your views
Views are listed in the tree in the left panel:
Stories: each story with its plan views (for example Story 1 > Plan 1), plus any plan views you save.
Site Plans: the Site Plan View.
3D Views: a Default 3D view, plus any 3D views you save.
Sections and Elevations (North, East, South, West).
The panel scrolls to the active story automatically, so the view you are working in stays in sight.
The Site Plan View
The Site Plan View is a default top-down view that shows all stories at once, with labels turned off. You can place it on sheets in Present Mode like any other plan view. It can't be deleted.
Note: Objects you draw while the Site Plan View is active are placed on the first story.
Open a view
For plan views:
In the left panel, single-click a plan view to make it active. The camera stays where it is, so you can switch stories without losing your place.
Double-click a plan view to jump to its saved camera position and visibility settings.
To open a 3D view, click it in the 3D Views list. You can also click Go to 3D (bottom right, Shift + >). When you switch from 3D back to 2D, Snaptrude returns to the last plan view you had active.
Set up and save a view
In the left panel, click the plan or 3D view you want to start from.
Frame the view. Right-click and drag to pan, scroll to zoom, and (in 3D) drag with the middle mouse button to orbit. To set a precise 3D angle, use Position Camera in the bottom-right controls, then fine-tune by orbiting and panning.
Hide anything you don't want in the view: select it, then press
Hor choose Hide from the Right-click menu. PressU(Show All) to bring hidden objects back.Adjust the view's appearance in View Settings (see below).
Click Save View (camera icon) in the bottom bar to save the current setup as a new view.
Click the three-dot menu next to the new view and choose Rename to give it a descriptive name.
Tip: To try a variation without touching a view you've already placed on sheets, save a copy with Save View, rename it, and edit the copy.
Change a view's View Settings
View Settings are opened from the active view itself in the left panel, and they apply only to that view. Two plan views of the same story can look completely different.
Canvas Color: set the background with the slider, an RGB value or a hex code.
Color Mode: choose Texture (each object's own material or color), Monochrome, Department, or any tag category in your project.
Perspective / Orthographic (3D views only).
Advanced settings: show or hide the axis and object edges.
Labels: choose what labels show, such as department and area. In 3D, tilt the camera towards a top-down angle to see labels.
Underlays (plan views only): style the lower and upper stories shown under the active story, and turn other buildings' underlays on or off.
Note: A saved view remembers its color mode. If you color a view by a tag category and later delete that category, the view falls back to Department.
Show other stories as underlays
Underlays let you see the stories below or above while you draw, so you can trace a new floor over the one beneath it or check alignment against the floor above.
Make the plan view you are working on active.
In the left panel, hover over the plan of another story and click its eye icon.
Repeat for any other stories you want to see. You can show several lower and upper stories at once.
Click the eye icon again to hide an underlay.
Underlays are styled so you can tell them apart from the active story:
Story | Default style |
Immediately below | Solid grey |
Further below | Random colors |
Immediately above | Black dashed lines |
Further above | Grey dashed lines |
Change these styles from the underlay options in the active view's View Settings.
Underlays are snappable but not selectable: you can snap walls, spaces and slabs to their edges and vertices without accidentally editing them. Hover an underlay to see a tooltip with its object type and story.
Furniture is not shown in underlays, and labels show only for the active story.
In a multi-building project, other buildings show as a read-only underlay by default. Turn them off in the view's View Settings.
Present Mode shows a plan exactly as it appears in Design Mode and BIM Mode, including its underlays.
Update, rename or delete a view
Click the view to make it active.
Make your changes: pan, zoom or orbit, hide or unhide objects, or change View Settings.
Click the three-dot menu next to the view and choose Update view to save the changes into it. Only that view changes; copies of it stay as they were.
From the same menu, choose Rename or Delete as needed.
Use views in Present Mode
Saved views are what you place on sheets in Present Mode. Open the Views tab in the left panel and drag a view onto a sheet. Plan views come in as vector drawings at a scale you choose (plans containing BIM objects or furniture come in as images), and 3D views come in as images.
When you change a view in Design Mode or BIM Mode and save it with Update view, refresh the copies on your sheets from the Views tab in Present Mode with Update all views, or select specific views and click Update N views to update just those. Sheet position, crop, scale and styles are kept.
Note: Camera, View Settings and visibility changes must be saved to the view in Design Mode or BIM Mode first. Present Mode only picks up what is saved in the view.
Tips
Keep one clean working view per story and save separate named views for presentation, so experimenting doesn't change your sheets.
Selection survives switching between 2D, 3D and the Site Plan View. If a selected object isn't visible in the new view, a message tells you.
Use a lower-story underlay with snapping to set out upper floors quickly, then hide it before saving a presentation view.
