Offset, Fillet and Erase

Offset edges of spaces, slabs and masses, round corners with Fillet, and remove objects or split-face lines with Erase.

Offset, Fillet and Erase are Design Mode editing tools for refining geometry you have already drawn. Use Offset to create a parallel edge at a set distance (for example, to carve a corridor or a border zone out of a space), Fillet to round off sharp corners, and Erase Edge to remove objects and unwanted lines, including split-face lines.

Before you start

  • These tools are in the top toolbar in Design Mode: Offset (F) sits with Move, Copy/Array and Rotate, and Erase Edge (E) sits with the drawing tools. The Offset tool works in both 2D and 3D views.

  • Dimension inputs accept metric values or imperial feet-inches, depending on your project units.

  • The Offset Tool described here is different from the offset draw modes (center, external, internal) you choose while drawing a space with the draw tools. Those control how the outline you draw is placed relative to your sketch line; the Offset Tool edits an existing object.

Offset an edge of an object

  1. In the top toolbar, select Offset (F).

  2. Click the edge of the object you want to offset.

  3. Move the cursor to set the direction and distance, or type a distance.

The Offset Tool works on these objects:

  • Spaces

  • Floor Slabs

  • Flooring

  • Ceilings

  • Columns

  • Masses

On spaces, Flooring and ceilings, offsetting an edge splits the object, so you get a separate piece along the offset edge. This is a quick way to divide a room into a circulation strip and a usable zone.

Note: There is no large fixed minimum offset distance; small values down to your project tolerance are accepted. Entering 0, a negative number or text shows an Invalid input message.

Offset several objects at once

The Offset Tool can offset more than one object in a single operation, which is useful when several adjoining spaces or slabs need the same setback. An offset preview shows where the offset will land before you confirm it.

Where Offset is not available

  • Walls and beams cannot be offset.

  • Objects whose edges have been edited cannot be offset.

  • Objects with voids have limits: some offsets on these objects are not allowed.

Round corners with Fillet

The Fillet tool replaces a sharp corner with a rounded one. Use it to soften the corners of your geometry or to model rounded building forms.

Corners do not have to share one radius. The corner radius can vary, so you can use a tight radius at one corner and a wide sweep on another.

Tip: Fillet and chamfer also work on curved geometry and surfaces, alongside shell, offset and sweep. The Snaptrude Agent can build and edit this kind of geometry for you from a plain-language request.

Erase objects and lines

Erase Edge is a universal tool for removing elements from the model, so you do not need a different tool for each kind of geometry. Select Erase Edge (E) in the top toolbar, then pick the object or line you want to remove.

Remove split-face lines

Lines created with Split Face can be erased. If a split is in the wrong place, use Erase Edge on the split line to remove it, including split lines drawn as a multi-segment polyline.

Note: You cannot split through an existing split line. If you need the split somewhere else, erase the existing line first, then split again.

Troubleshooting

  • Offset will not work on a wall or beam. These objects are not supported by the Offset Tool.

  • Offset is refused on a space. Check whether the space has edited edges or voids. Both can block the offset.

  • You see "Invalid input". Enter a positive number.
