Using the Rotate Tool
Updated this week

This guide provides a step-by-step process on how to use the rotate tool from the design tab to rotate spaces and BIM objects on Snaptrude.

Rotating Spaces

Step 1: Activate the 'Rotate tool' from the design tab or use the shortcut 'Q'.

Image

Step 2: Hover the cursor over the edge, vertex or the face of the space you want to rotate. The snap points will turn yellow (and green when the midpoint is selected). Next, click on the other point to define the line of rotation.

Step 3: To adjust the angle while rotating, position your cursor as needed or input the angle value for precise rotation.

Note: Rotation can be performed in a similar way in both 3D & 2D views on Snaptrude.

Rotate BIM objects

Step 1: Activate the 'Rotate tool' from the design tab or use the shortcut 'Q'.

Image

Step 2: Click on two points (of the vertices, faces, or edges) of the object to define the line of rotation and then proceed to rotate it. Additionally, enter the rotation value for precision.

Step 3: You can also define other lines of axis while rotating an object. For example, let's rotate this column along the horizontal axis as shown below. As you hover over the column's vertical face, you'll notice the protractor's color change from green to red meaning the axis of rotation has been changed.

Step 4: To rotate multiple objects together, select all of the objects, click on rotate, and then rotate them together.

Note:

  1. Objects while rotating can also be snapped to nearby objects for precision.

  2. Rooms/spaces and walls can only be rotated in the vertical axis (green axis).

  3. The protractor is colour-coded for axis alignment, i.e., it changes colour with respect to the axis it is used to rotate the object in (Colours include: Red - X, Blue - Y, Green - Z).

  4. Rotation is possible for spaces, masses, BIM elements, furniture, topography, and all imported files (CAD, PDF, Image, etc)
