Move objects on Snaptrude

A step-by-step guide on how to move objects in Snaptrude using the 'Move tool' & 'Select-to-Move'.

Updated over a month ago

There are two ways to move objects around on Snaptrude:

Move tool

The move tool, located in the design tab, is a handy feature for relocating objects within the design space, applicable in both 2D and 3D views. Follow these steps to move any elements added to a Snaptrude project, including imported files, spaces, walls, slabs, doors, windows, etc.

Moving Spaces

Step 1: Navigate to the design tab and select Move. (Alternatively, use M as a shortcut key).

Once the move tool is activated, snapping points will appear at each vertex, edge, and face of the object you wish.

Image

Step 2: Use the left mouse button to select the desired snapping point and drag the mouse in the direction you want to move the mass.

Pro tip: Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to lock the axis of movement in X, Y or Z direction.

Step 3: Either move the object freehand & click it to place there. Or manually enter the exact distance and press enter to move the object to the new location.

Note: To move multiple objects, use the control or command keys to manually select all the objects you want to move. Alternatively, for large scale selection use the rectangle marque tool or filter selection, then, repeat the steps above to move the selected objects together.

Moving BIM elements

As an example, let's look at how to move furniture while working on interior designs in Snaptrude.

Step 1: First select the furniture elements you'd like to move. (Use the rectangular marquee tool to multi-select the objects together.)

Step 2: Select the 'Move' tool in the Design tab or Press M on your keyboard as a shortcut.

Step 3: Click on one of the points from where the objects need to be moved.

Pro-tip: Lock the axis using the arrow keys on the keyboard to restrict the movement direction.

Step 4: Either manually enter the distance or move the mouse freehand to move the objects to the new location

Pro-tip: You can also snap and align to any nearby objects for precise placement.

Select to Move

Objects can be moved around on the design canvas without activating the 'Move Tool' as well. Follow the steps below to simply select the object to move it on the canvas:

  • Left-click to select a face, edge, or vertex of the object you wish to move. Continue clicking & drag it around the design canvas.

  • You can select to move objects in both 2D & 3D views.

  • To move multiple objects together: Multi-select the objects then follow the same steps as above, i.e., left-click & drag to move them.

Note:

1. Lock the axis using the arrow keys on the keyboard to restrict the movement direction

2. Enter the distance to move the objects to ensure the objects move to the exact location desired.
