Area Lock

Updated today

The Area Lock feature lets you preserve the footprint area of rectangular spaces—whether drawn manually or created from Program Mode. Once locked, any geometric edits you make (length, width, or push-pull) automatically update proportions while keeping the total square footage unchanged. This ensures your program requirements remain consistent while you experiment with design geometry.

Enable Area Lock

The space areas can be locked directly from the properties panel. Follow the steps below:

  1. Select a space on the canvas.

  2. A lock icon appears next to the Footprint Area field in the object properties panel.

  3. Click the icon to lock (or unlock) the area.

  4. Once an area is locked, any geometric edits—such as push/pull or using the Edit tool—will adjust automatically to ensure the space’s area remains unchanged.

Pro-tip: Bulk Locking (2D & 3D)

  • Use Ctrl+A or a marquee selection to select multiple spaces.

  • Lock all eligible rectangular spaces at once from OPP.

  • Locking a space on the canvas while multiple are selected applies to all eligible selections.

Note:

  1. Areas are unlocked by default.

  2. Multi-select: Locking one space from canvas locks all selected (if eligible).

  3. Instances: Locking/unlocking one instance applies to all instances.

  4. If editing a locked object surrounded by other locked objects, a prompt appears to prevent conflicting geometry or cascading edits.
