Snaptrude has two locks that keep a space to its brief while you change its shape. Area Lock keeps a rectangular space's footprint area fixed, so when you change its length or width the other side adjusts. Height Lock ties a space's height to the height of its story. Use Area Lock to try different proportions without moving away from your program targets. Height Lock keeps your spaces matched to the story heights you set. Both locks are available on all plans.
Lock a space's area
Area Lock works best on rectangular spaces, whether you drew them in Design Mode or created them from Program Mode. Spaces start with their area unlocked.
Select a space on the canvas.
In the Properties panel, find the Footprint Area field.
Click the lock icon next to Footprint Area. The area is locked.
Change the space as usual. Push-pull a face, type a new length or width, or use Edit Length. Snaptrude adjusts the other dimension so the footprint area stays the same.
To unlock the area, select the space and click the lock icon next to Footprint Area again.
Note: You can also click the lock icon on a space's label on the canvas in 2D views. The area lock icon is hidden in 3D views. To lock or unlock a space in 3D, use the Properties panel.
Lock the area of several spaces at once
Select the spaces. Press
Ctrl+A(Cmd+Aon Mac) to select everything, or drag a marquee selection around them.In the Properties panel, click the lock icon next to Footprint Area.
All eligible rectangular spaces in the selection are locked together. If you click the lock icon on one space's canvas label while several spaces are selected, the lock also applies to every eligible space in the selection.
How Area Lock behaves
Instances lock together. Locking or unlocking one instance of a space does the same to every instance of it.
Program Mode respects the lock. You can't change a locked space's area from Program Mode. Unlock it first.
Surrounding locked spaces. When you edit a locked space that is surrounded by other locked spaces, Snaptrude shows a prompt. This stops you from creating conflicting geometry or a chain of edits.
Area Lock limitations
Area Lock only keeps the area constant for edits to a whole face or a dimension. These edits aren't supported on a space with a locked area:
Push-pulling or editing individual vertices.
Adding or removing vertices and then push-pulling or editing.
Splitting the space.
Drawing voids or holes in the space.
You can lock a non-rectangular, circular or irregular space, but editing it is restricted while the lock is on. Area Lock doesn't apply to a group as a whole. To lock spaces inside a group, lock each space in the group individually.
Tip: To split a space or edit its vertices, unlock its area first, make the change, and then lock it again.
Lock a space's height to its story
New spaces of every Space Type are locked to their story's height by default. A lock icon appears next to Height in the Properties panel. Hover over it to see the tooltip: "Object height is locked to story height. Edit story height from the Stories panel." While the lock is on, the space's height follows whatever story height you set in the Stories panel.
To give a space its own height:
Select the space.
In the Properties panel, click the lock icon next to Height to unlock it.
Change the space's height, for example by push-pulling its top face.
To make the space follow the story height again, click the lock icon next to Height again.
Note: Some edits unlock the height for you: push-pulling the space, using split face, or changing the space's height in Program Mode. After any of these, the space keeps the height you gave it and stops following the story height until you lock it again.
