Keyboard Shortcuts

Every default Snaptrude keyboard shortcut for Windows and Mac: navigation, selection, drawing, editing, copying and visibility.

Keyboard shortcuts let you switch tools and repeat common actions without leaving the canvas. This page is the full list of default shortcuts in Snaptrude for Windows and Mac. Single-letter tool shortcuts are the same on both; where a shortcut uses Ctrl, use Cmd on a Mac, and where it uses Alt, use Option.

Tip: If you don't know a tool's shortcut, type its name into the Search tools & actions box at the bottom of the canvas instead. It also understands common aliases from other software, such as MV for Move, Mirror for Flip and Unhide for Show All.

How the editing shortcuts behave

  • Spacebar rotates the selected objects 90 degrees clockwise. A single object rotates about its pivot; a multi-selection rotates about its combined centre. It also works while you're placing an object that is attached to the cursor. It doesn't rotate doors, windows, voids or locked objects. With nothing selected, Spacebar returns you to the Select tool. Rotate 90° is also in the Right-click menu.

  • J works in 3D while the Edit (push-pull) tool is active. Hover near an edge or vertex and press J to edit that edge or vertex instead of the face. A tooltip, Press J to edit edge / vertex, reminds you when it's available. Face editing remains the default, and 2D editing is unaffected.

  • Alt turns snaps off only while you hold it, which helps when a snap keeps pulling your cursor to the wrong point.

  • V, D and W work in BIM Mode, which is available on the Pro, Organization and Enterprise plans. B opens Materials in both Design Mode and BIM Mode.

Note: F opens Offset; it isn't a shortcut for adding furniture.

Cmd + Up / Down arrow

Duplicate Above / Duplicate Below as Unique

Ctrl + Alt + Up / Down arrow

Cmd + Option + Up / Down arrow

How the copy shortcuts behave

  • Hold Ctrl during Move switches the Move tool to Copy for as long as you hold the key. Switching cancels any move you haven't finished. If you let go before you place the copy, the copy is cancelled. Press Esc to step back during a copy.

  • When you start a copy with the Copy tool, Move with Ctrl, or Ctrl + C, Snaptrude shows the Copy Type Selector. Choose Instance (the default) or Unique. Snaptrude remembers your choice until you reload the page. You can't change the copy type once the array count is more than 1.

  • Instances stay linked, so editing one updates the others. A unique copy is independent. You can make an instance unique later, but you can't turn a unique object into an instance.

  • Duplicate Above and Duplicate Below copy the selection to the story above or below. The same commands are in the Properties panel and the Right-click menu (Duplicate as Instance / Duplicate as Unique). Hold Alt while you click Duplicate in the Properties panel to make a unique copy.

After you copy within the same project, right-click empty canvas and choose Paste as Unique or Paste as Instance.
