Add and Remove Vertices

Add or remove corners on spaces and BIM elements in 2D to reshape their outlines, with shape previews and supported elements.

The Add/Remove Vertex tool changes the outline of an object in plan. Adding a vertex places a new corner on an edge so you can reshape that part of the outline. Removing a vertex deletes a corner from the outline. The tool works in the 2D view, on spaces in Design Mode and on BIM elements in BIM Mode.

Before you start

  • Switch to the 2D view. Vertex editing works only in 2D.

  • The Add/Remove Vertex tool is in the top toolbar, next to Edit (P) and Edit Length.

  • Use Design Mode to edit spaces and BIM Mode to edit BIM elements.

  • Adding vertices works on walls, Floor Slabs, roofs, Flooring, columns, beams and generic masses.

  • Removing vertices works on walls, Floor Slabs, Flooring, columns, beams and generic masses.

  • Vertex editing doesn't work on ceilings.

Add a vertex to a space

  1. In Design Mode, switch to the 2D view.

  2. Select Add/Remove Vertex in the top toolbar.

  3. Optionally, click inside the space to show all its current vertices. This helps you place the new vertex accurately.

  4. Hover over the edge where you want the new vertex. A blue snap point guides you along the edge; it turns green at the edge's midpoint.

  5. Click to add the vertex. Repeat to add more vertices along the same edge.

  6. Select Edit (P) and adjust the new vertex, or the edge segment it created, to reshape the space.

Note: If the edge is shared by two spaces, adding a vertex and editing it changes both spaces.

Add a vertex to a BIM element

  1. In BIM Mode, switch to the 2D view.

  2. Select Add/Remove Vertex in the top toolbar.

  3. Optionally, click inside the element to show all its current vertices.

  4. Hover over the edge and click where the new vertex should go. You can add several vertices along the same edge.

  5. Select Edit (P) and adjust the new vertex to reshape the element.

The same steps work for walls, Floor Slabs, roofs, Flooring, columns, beams and generic masses.

Remove a vertex from a space

  1. In Design Mode, switch to the 2D view.

  2. Select Add/Remove Vertex in the top toolbar.

  3. Optionally, click inside the space to show all its current vertices.

  4. Hover over the vertex you want to remove. A yellow highlight previews the shape the space will take once that vertex is gone.

  5. Click the vertex to remove it.

Remove a vertex from a BIM element

  1. In BIM Mode, switch to the 2D view.

  2. Select Add/Remove Vertex in the top toolbar.

  3. Click the element you want to edit to show its vertices.

  4. Hover over a vertex to preview the resulting shape.

  5. Click the vertex to remove it.

The same steps work for walls, Floor Slabs, Flooring, columns, beams and generic masses.

How vertex edits affect BIM elements

When you edit the vertices or edges of a BIM element, the structure layer in its construction layers is set to Variable.

Some other tools treat objects with edited edges differently:

  • Offset (F) can't be used on objects with edited edges.

  • Area Lock on a space's Footprint Area doesn't support vertex edits.

Tips

  • Click inside an object before you start to see every existing vertex at once.

  • To edit edges and vertices in 3D, use Edit in the 3D view: hover near an edge or vertex and press J to switch from face editing to edge and vertex editing.
