A project template is a saved starting point for new projects. If you keep setting up projects the same way, with the same units, stories, views or standard content, save one of them as a template. Every project you start from it then begins with that setup in place, and your team's projects stay consistent.
Before you start
Templates are available on all plans.
Templates live under Templates in the workspace section of the dashboard's left sidebar.
Note: Project templates are not the same as Custom Templates in Program Mode, which are schedule-style sheets for program data. Those are covered in their own article.
Create a template from the dashboard
Use this when you want to build a template from scratch.
On the dashboard, click Templates in the left sidebar.
Click New template.
Enter a name for the template and choose its units.
Click Create.
Save an existing project as a template
Use this when you already have a project set up the way you like.
Open the project.
Click the project name at the top left to open the project menu.
Select Save As Template.
Rename the template if you need to.
Click Save.
The template appears under Templates on the dashboard.
What a template keeps
When you save a project as a template, the whole project is saved, so projects created from it start with the same content and settings. This includes:
The model, stories and other content saved in the project.
Present Mode view settings. Line and fill settings you set up in a view's View Settings panel stay with the template, so plans and diagrams in new projects follow your office's graphic standards from the start.
Tip: Keep templates lean. Set up stories, views and graphic standards, and leave out project-specific geometry, so each new project starts clean.
Edit a template
On the dashboard, click Templates in the left sidebar.
Find the template's thumbnail and click the dropdown arrow beside its name.
Select Open Template.
Make your changes. Projects you create from the template afterwards start from the updated version.
Start a project from a template
On the dashboard, click Templates in the left sidebar.
Click the template's name. Snaptrude creates a new project based on the template.
You can also click the dropdown arrow beside a template's name and choose to create a project from it.
Rename, duplicate or delete a template
On the dashboard, click Templates in the left sidebar.
Click the dropdown arrow beside the template's name.
Choose the option to rename, duplicate or delete the template.
Tip: Duplicate a template before making large changes to it, so you can go back to the earlier version.
