Using the Split Face tool
Updated this week

In this guide, you will learn the functionality of the 'Split face' tool in Snaptrude, which enables users to split a designated face of space or a BIM object, creating the option to define multiple dimensions or apply various materials to the object. Note that the split face can only be used in the 3D view of the project.

Splitting Face of a Space

Step 1: Navigate to the design tab and select Split Face.

Step 2: Draw a line based on how you want to split the face of the space.

Note: All the faces, including the vertical faces, of a space can be split using this tool.

Step 3: Once is split is made, edit the space using the Push/Pull tool as needed.

Using Split Face Tool on BIM Objects

The split face tool also works on BIM objects like walls, slabs, columns, floors, etc, enabling the user to create detailed interior design for the project. For example, let's see how to split the face of a wall.

Step 1: In the 3D view, go to the design tab and select 'Split Face'.

Step 2: Draw a line from one edge to the opposite to complete the split. (Snap points & the edge lines can help you understand how you are splitting the surface)

Step 3: You can then edit this split surface by applying different material or using the Push/Pull tool.

Create your design by splitting the surface of wall multiple times as shown below.

Repeat these steps to split face on walls, slabs, floors, ceilings, columns, beams & generic masses.

Remember:

  • The split face tool works only in 3D view and not in 2D.

  • For precise snapping along the x or y axis use the 'Shift' button on the keyboard.
