Your project library holds the materials, furniture, doors and windows you can place in a project. When the built-in options don't have what you need, you can upload your own texture images and 3D models into it. Use the project library for items only you need; use a team library when colleagues need the same items or when you want to attach cost and description data.
Before you start
Library uploads aren't available on the Free plan, and the Add to Library option isn't shown in the Properties panel there. See Plans and Billing to compare plans.
Materials and furniture are on the vertical toolbar along the right edge of the canvas in Design Mode and BIM Mode. Doors and windows are added in BIM Mode, which is available on the Pro, Organization and Enterprise plans.
Open the project you want to add items to.
Add a custom material
On the right-edge toolbar, click Materials (shortcut
B).Click Add Material.
Choose the material type from the drop-down menu.
Click Select from Computer and pick one or more texture files. Supported formats: .jpg, .png and .tiff.
Click Import Material.
The material appears in the Materials library, ready to apply.
Add your own furniture
On the right-edge toolbar, click Furniture.
Click Add Furniture.
Choose a category from the drop-down menu. You can create your own categories, such as Lighting, Tables or Landscape, to keep the library organised.
Click Select from Computer and choose one or more model files. Supported formats: .skp, .obj, .fbx and .3ds.
Click Upload.
Tip: Snaptrude shows a warning or error for .skp files saved in a SketchUp version newer than 2024. Save the file down to SketchUp 2024 or earlier before uploading.
Add your own doors and windows
Doors and windows in Snaptrude are families: editing a door or window type updates every copy of that type in the project. Doors and windows each have their own library pop-up with category filters.
Switch to BIM Mode.
On the right-edge toolbar, click Doors (
D) or Windows (W).Click Add Door/Window.
Choose the matching category from the drop-down menu. The category controls the annotation symbol drawn for the door or window in 2D plans, so pick it carefully.
Click Select from Computer, or drag and drop the files. Supported formats: .skp, .obj, .fbx and .3ds.
Click Import Door/Window.
Note: Old-style doors and windows from earlier projects aren't supported and don't appear in the team library's door and window sections. To find them, open Families on the right-edge toolbar and filter by category.
Import a Revit family
To bring in a Revit family (.rfa) as a parametric component, open Families on the right-edge toolbar and use Import PC in the Personal section. The family's parameters stay editable in Snaptrude. For the full workflow, see Families and Parametric Components.
Save an object from your project to the library
On paid plans you can turn something you've modelled into a reusable library item. Select it and use Add to Library in the Properties panel. For doors, windows and other families, Duplicate Family turns any element into its own family, which you can keep in the project or save to your library.
Project library or team library?
Project library | Team library |
Items are visible only to you, the account owner. Team members and people you share the project with can't use them. | Items are available to everyone in the team. Team libraries are part of the Organization and Enterprise plans. |
Uploaded furniture, doors and windows can't be deleted from the library later. | Items are managed in the team's Libraries. |
No cost, description or other extra data on uploaded items. | Supports cost (with a currency picker), descriptions and other details. |
If an item will be reused by colleagues, upload it to a team library instead. Materials and the project library are shared across all design proposals in a project.
