Copy/Array of BIM Objects

Creating identical copies

In Snaptrude, you can make identical copies of objects, so editing one object updates all the copies automatically. Follow the steps below for the same:

  1. Select Object: Select the object(s) you want to copy or array.

  2. Access Copy/Array Tool: Go to the Design tab, and choose Copy/Array (Shortcut “C”) from the options.

  3. Enter Parameters: Enter the distance and the number of copies you want to create, then press Enter.

  4. Complete Operation: Snaptrude will then generate identical copies of the object based on the parameters you provided.

  5. Since the copies made are identical, any edits made to one of the object will be reflected in the copies as well.

Creating unique copies

To create copies that don't change together, use the "Unique" option when copying. Follow the steps below for the same:

  1. Select Object: Select the object(s) you want to copy or array.

  2. Access Copy/Array Tool: Go to the Design tab and choose "Copy/Array (C)" from the options.

  3. Enter Parameters: Enter the distance and the number of copies you want to create.

  4. Select Unique Option: Check the checkbox next to "Unique".

  5. Complete Operation: Press Enter. Snaptrude will create unique copies of the object. Editing one unique copy will not affect the others, and the material applied to one copy will not affect the rest.

Making a copy unique after the array command

Non-unique (cloned) copies of an object can be made unique using the Make Unique button in Object Properties. This works for objects copied using Copy/Array with the Unique check box off. It also works for objects copied by storey replication (Copy Selection Up & Down) with the check box off.

Select the objects (rooms, walls, slabs, etc) you want to make unique. Open Object Properties in the right tab, and click on Make Unique.

Copying objects using “Ctrl. + C” and “Ctrl. + V”

You can also use the keyboard shortcuts “Ctrl. + C” and “Ctrl. + V” to copy and paste objects between projects. Objects will be copied and pasted with the same origin point. This method can be used to copy elements across projects and storeys.

  1. Choose the object(s) you want to copy, then press "Ctrl + C" on your keyboard to copy them.

  2. Pasting in a Project: Navigate to the desired project, whether a new one or an existing one and use "Ctrl + V" to paste the elements.

  3. Pasting on the Same or Different Storey: You can paste the objects on the same storey, switch to the respective storey, and then paste using "Ctrl + V".
