Importing Revit RFAs to Snaptrude

Learn to import RFAs directly to a Snaptrude project & add it to the team library

Updated over a week ago

This tutorial explains the process of importing Revit furniture families (RFAs) into a Snaptrude project and adding them to the team's central library.

Step 1: Open the RFA in the 3D view and launch the Snaptrude manager.

Step 2: Click on 'Upload to Snaptrude'. You'll see two options:

a.) Upload the RFA onto a 'New project': Select this option if you want Snaptrude to create a new project for the RFA.

b.) Add it directly to an 'Existing project': Choose this option to bring the RFA into an existing project on Snaptrude.

Uploading to an Existing Project

Step 1: Click on 'Existing Project'. Enter the link of the project to which you wish to add the RFA. A preview of the project name will appear. The Manager will also confirm if you have editing permissions for the project to proceed with the upload.

Step 2: Finally, click on Begin Export. The Manager will redirect to the browser and open a new tab for that project.

Step 3: You can now place the RFA directly into the project within the 3D view. Once added, you can edit it just like any other furniture in Snaptrude.

Step 4: If you have added the RFA to a project in a team, you can choose to directly add it to central library of that team. To do so, click on the furniture. An option to add to the library will appear in the object properties tab.

Step 5: Rename the furniture and select the room category, then click on 'Add to Library'.

Step 6: The furniture is now part of the library and can be reused in the project or any other project within the same team. Verify the same from the furniture tab of the project or from the team's central library.

Note: Since the furniture is added to the central library, cost, vendor details, or any other related properties can be assigned to the furniture element from there.

Adding Furniture to a New Project

Step 1: Click on Snaptrude Manager and then on 'Upload to Project' and 'New Project'.

Image

Step 2: Choose whether to add this to your workspace or a team space, and (optionally) select the appropriate folder within that space. Once you've made your selections, click 'Done'.

Image

Step 3: You'll then be redirected to a new browser tab, where a new project will be created.

Image

Step 4: If you have added the RFA to a project in a team, you can choose to directly add it to central library of that team. Using the similar process as before, add the furniture to the library if you wish to.

This way you can seamlessly work with RFAs without having to convert it into any other 3D formats before bringing it on Snaptrude. Furthermore, by adding it to a team library you can also associate all the relevant properties to it such as cost, vendor contact details and other description.
