Central library creation (Pt.3) - Uploading Wall types via Revit Import

This guide outlines the steps to import custom wall types from a Revit project into a team library on Snaptrude.

Updated over a week ago

The team library on Snaptrude enables users to import custom wall types from Revit using the Snaptrude Manager. Before starting the import process, make sure to follow the tutorial on installing the Snaptrude Manager to install the Snaptrude plugin for Revit. Once installed, you can import wall types from Revit to Snaptrude Team Library and customize them by adding construction cost and other parameters. Follow this guide to learn how to add wall types to a team library on Snaptrude.

Importing Wall types to Team Library

Step1: Begin by drawing all the different wall types in a Revit project.

(Alternatively, if a building project on Revit already has all the wall types you wish to import, simply import the entire project directly as well).

Step2: Access Snaptrude Manager: In the 3D view, click on the Snaptrude Manager from the Snaptrude ribbon on Revit.

Image

Step 3: Select "Upload to Snaptrude." Choose the team library where you want to add the wall types.

Image

Step 4: Click "Done" after selecting the team. A new browser tab will open, and the project import to Snaptrude will begin.

Image

Step 5: Next, click on "Import Levels". (This isn't a vital step for uploading wall types to the library).

Step 6: Select Wall Types: From the asset window, check the boxes of the the wall types to add to the library. If a wall type already exists in the library, its selection box will be grayed out. (To add all wall types, click "Select All.")

Image

Step 7: Start Import Process: Once the selections have been made, click "Save" to begin the import process.

Step 8: Review Imported Wall Types: After importing the wall types, navigate to the team library where you added them. Here, you will find the wall types imported from Revit, along with the default Snaptrude walls.

Managing Wall types in Team Library

  • View Construction breakdown: Each of these wall types will be imported with the construction properties as it is from Revit. This includes the structural layer, as well as any finished layer present in the wall type, and their respective thicknesses

Image
  • Assign Units, Construction and Demolition Costs: Specify the unit construction cost for each wall type in the team library. Define the units for cost calculation (by area, volume, or running length, depending on the wall type).

Image
  • Add Description or Create New Properties: Add any additional descriptions or create new properties for the wall types in the library

Image
  • Edit Wall Types: To delete, rename, or duplicate a wall type, right-click on it and select the appropriate option.

Image
  • Update Project Costing: Once the wall library is set up for the team, head over to the project where you will see the construction cost updated in the 'Costing' tab.

Note: The imported wall types will now be available for use in all projects within the respective team on Snaptrude.
