Organizations, Teams, Roles and Permissions

Invite people to your organization, create teams, assign default, custom and Billing admin roles, and manage team members and credits access.

An organization is your firm's shared Snaptrude account. Inside it, teams are shared workspaces where members work on the same projects, use a common team library of materials, furniture, doors, windows and families, and get permissions set by their role. Use this article to invite people, set up teams, and control what each person can do.

Before you start

  • Teams, custom roles and the team library are part of the Organization and Enterprise plans. See Plans, Billing and Credits for what each plan includes.

  • Organization admins invite people to the organization. Only a team admin can change a team's role permissions.

  • Team and organization names can only use English (Latin) characters. Other characters show an error message and can't be saved.

How organizations, teams and roles fit together

  • Organization: everyone in your firm. Each person has one organization role: Admin, Member or Billing admin.

  • Team: a group of organization members who share projects, templates and a team library. You can create as many teams as you need.

  • Team role: a set of permissions for one team. Default roles cover common access levels, and team admins can create custom roles.

  • Billing admin: a special organization role for people who look after billing only (see below).

Invite people to your organization

Organization admins can invite people to the organization by sharing the organization invite link.

  1. Open your organization's settings from the dashboard.

  2. Copy the organization invite link.

  3. When inviting, use the role dropdown to choose the role new members get.

  4. Share the link with your colleagues.

People who join become organization members, and can then be added to teams.

Note: Invite links don't expire. Share the link only with people you want in your organization, through your firm's own channels.

Make someone a Billing admin

Give the Billing admin role to someone who manages payments but doesn't design in Snaptrude, such as an office manager or someone in finance.

  • A Billing admin can only maintain the organization settings page.

  • A Billing admin doesn't get Pro features.

  • A Billing admin doesn't count as a seat.

Create a team

  1. In the dashboard's left sidebar, click Create team below your workspace section.

  2. Enter a name for the team and click Create.

  3. Add team members by entering their email addresses, or skip this step and add them later.

The team then appears in the left sidebar of the dashboard, with its projects, templates, libraries and settings.

Add or remove team members

  1. In the dashboard's left sidebar, click the dropdown next to the team name, or open the team's Settings.

  2. Open Team Members.

  3. Click Add Team Member and enter the email addresses of the people to add. Separate multiple addresses with commas.

  4. Use the dropdown next to a member to change their role, or choose Remove to take them off the team.

Note: You can only add people who already belong to the organization as an Admin or Member. Invite them to the organization first.

Use default and custom roles

Each team has four default roles with preset permissions: Admin, Creator, Editor and Viewer. Permissions are on/off toggles, and only a team admin can change them.

Create a custom role

  1. Click the dropdown next to the team name, or open the team's Settings, and go to Custom Roles.

  2. Click + Create Custom Role.

  3. Name the role and switch each permission on or off.

  4. Click Create.

To change the role later, open it in Custom Roles and change its toggles.

Assign a role to a team member

  1. Open Team Members.

  2. Select the role from the dropdown next to the member.

Delete a custom role

  1. Give everyone who has the custom role a different role.

  2. In Custom Roles, right-click the role name and click Delete.

Send or move projects to a team

Sending a project to a team is controlled by team role permissions, so whether you can do it depends on your role in that team. If the option isn't available, ask a team admin to check your role's permissions.

Projects can also be moved into and out of team workspaces. This is on by default for new teams.

Rename, leave or delete a team

  1. Click the dropdown next to the team name.

  2. Choose to rename the team, leave it or delete it.

Note: If you're a team's only admin, make another member an admin before you leave the team.

Credits for organization members

When credits run low, Organization members see a Credit balance low message with a Get credits button. Billing admins can buy credits. If your role doesn't allow you to buy credits, Get credits is disabled; ask your organization admin or billing admin to add credits.

Troubleshooting

  • I can't add someone to a team. They must be in the organization first. Invite them with the organization invite link, then add them to the team.

  • I can't delete a custom role. Someone still has that role. Give them a different role first.

  • I can't leave a team. You're its only admin. Make another member an admin first.

  • Get credits is disabled. Your role doesn't allow you to buy credits. Ask your organization admin or billing admin.

  • My team name won't save. Remove any characters that aren't English letters.
