The Right-click menu puts common actions right under your cursor, so you can work without hunting through toolbars or remembering shortcuts. What the menu shows depends on where you right-click: on empty canvas, on an object, or in a brand-new project with nothing in it yet.
Open the menu on empty canvas
Move your cursor to an empty part of the canvas, away from any object.
Right-click. The canvas menu opens at your cursor.
Click the action you want.
The empty-canvas menu groups global actions that don't depend on a particular object:
Action | What it does |
Undo / Redo | Reverts or restores your most recent actions. |
Show All | Shows all objects in the model. |
Zoom Extents | Frames the whole model in the view, keeping the current camera orientation. You can also press |
Select Previous | Restores your last selection if you cleared it by accident, and moves the camera to it in both 2D and 3D. |
Select All | Selects every object in the current view, the same as |
Filter Select | Selects objects by story, object type or tag. See "Select objects with Filter Select" below. |
Add Comment | Starts a comment at the point where you right-clicked. |
Recent Commands | Lists the last three commands you ran so you can run one again with a single click. |
Paste as an instance or a unique copy
After you copy objects, the empty-canvas menu also shows paste options.
Select the objects and copy them with
Ctrl+C(Cmd+C).Right-click on empty canvas where you want the copy.
Choose Paste as Instance to create a linked copy (edits to one instance apply to all of them), or Paste as Unique to create an independent copy.
Note: The instance and unique options appear only when you paste within the same project. If you copied from a different project, the menu uses a regular paste instead.
Note: Both spaces and BIM objects can be pasted as instances or as unique copies. See the Copy Type Selector article for details.
Select objects with Filter Select
Filter Select works from a blank canvas, so you don't need to select anything first. You can also reach it from the Select dropdown in the top toolbar (Filter selection).
Right-click on empty canvas.
Choose Filter Select.
Pick one or more filters: By Story, By Object (including Space Types) or By Tag. Snaptrude selects every object that matches any of the filters you picked.
Note: Filters combine with OR logic. For example, choosing a story and a tag selects everything on that story plus everything with that tag, wherever it is.
Open an object's menu
You don't need to select an object before right-clicking it.
Right-click directly on the object. Its menu opens at your cursor.
Click the action you want.
If you already have objects selected, right-clicking keeps that selection.
The actions in an object menu depend on the object type and on what is selected. Common ones include:
Rotate 90°: Rotates the object 90° clockwise. A single object rotates about its pivot; a multi-selection rotates about the combined centroid. You can also press
Spacewith objects selected. Doors, windows, voids and locked objects can't be rotated this way.Duplicate as Instance / Duplicate as Unique: Duplicates the selection to another story, either as a linked instance or as an independent copy.
Same Label, Same Type, Same Tags and Same Instances: Selects the objects that share the label, type, tags or instances of the object you right-clicked.
Bring to Front / Send to Back: On overlapping PDF, image and CAD imports, changes the stacking order. The order controls which import is picked when you click and the order
Tabcycles through them.Analyze site: On a site object, starts a site analysis.
Run a Boolean operation from the menu
Boolean operations combine or cut overlapping spaces, and work on mass types in BIM Mode.
Select two or more overlapping objects. Select the target object first, because selection order decides which object is the target.
Right-click one of the selected objects.
Choose a Boolean operation: Union, Difference, Trim, Intersect or Split.
Tip: Selecting with a marquee, Ctrl + A or Filter Select doesn't give you control over selection order. If the result isn't what you expected, undo and pick the objects one at a time, starting with the target.
Use the menu in a new project
In a new project that doesn't contain any objects yet, right-clicking the canvas opens a menu focused on getting started instead of the editing actions above. Once the project has objects, you see the empty-canvas menu described above.
Tips
Right-click and drag pans the view. A right-click without dragging opens the menu.
Most menu actions also have keyboard shortcuts. See Keyboard Shortcuts for the full list.
